What Is the PETKIT Puroflow Ultra?
The PETKIT Puroflow Ultra is a self-cleaning litter box that automatically sifts clumps into a sealed waste drawer after each use. It uses infrared and weight sensors to detect when your cat enters and exits, then rotates the drum to separate waste from clean litter. No scooping, no daily maintenance — just empty the waste drawer every week or so.
Design & Build
The Puroflow Ultra looks like it belongs in a modern apartment. The rounded white exterior with a clear entry hatch gives it an almost futuristic aesthetic. Compared to the industrial look of the Litter-Robot, PETKIT clearly prioritized design.
That said, it’s big. The unit takes up significant floor space — roughly 24 x 22 x 25 inches. Make sure you measure your intended spot before ordering. The entry opening is wide enough for large cats up to 18 pounds.
How It Works
When your cat exits the box, the Puroflow Ultra waits a configurable period (5-60 minutes), then slowly rotates its inner drum. Clumped litter falls through a sifting grate into the sealed waste drawer below. Clean litter stays in the drum for next use.
The rotation is impressively quiet — noticeably less noisy than the Litter-Robot 4 or CatGenie. In a quiet room you’ll hear a soft hum, but it won’t disturb sleep or startle cats.
Safety Features
PETKIT’s xSecure system uses infrared sensors, weight detection, and anti-pinch technology to stop the drum immediately if a cat enters mid-cycle. In our testing, the system halted reliably every time we simulated an interruption. Cat safety was clearly a priority in the engineering.
One note: with our lighter cat (7 lbs), the weight sensor occasionally didn’t register her exit, delaying the cleaning cycle. The infrared sensors caught it, but there was a noticeable delay compared to our heavier cat.
App & Smart Features
The PETKIT app tracks each cat’s usage frequency, duration, and weight over time. It flags unusual patterns that could indicate health issues. You can also trigger cleaning remotely, adjust timing delays, and monitor the waste drawer level.
The health tracking is legitimately useful. Changes in litter box frequency are one of the earliest signs of feline health issues, and having that data logged automatically saves you from guessing.
Ongoing Costs
You’ll need PETKIT’s proprietary waste bags for the drawer (about $15 for a 3-month supply) and standard clumping litter. No subscriptions or cloud fees. Total ongoing cost is minimal compared to subscription-based alternatives.
The Verdict
The PETKIT Puroflow Ultra is one of the quietest, best-designed self-cleaning litter boxes available. The safety features are thorough, the app is genuinely useful, and the ongoing costs are low. At $469, it’s not cheap — but for multi-cat households tired of daily scooping, it’s a strong contender that balances form and function well.
